In eastern philosophy one of the most helpful philosophies is the one that notes that control is an illusion. We all work so hard to control our surroundings, our outcomes, how we are seen in the world, what we accomplish in the world, etc. etc. etc. If we meditate on the theory of control, we learn that the only thing we can control is our inner landscape—our minds, our responses. Remembering this truth helps us focus on strengthening our inner landscape and being mindful of our responses while leaving the rest of it be.
